Entre Fer et Mer
Yann Nguema, Anima Lux / France / 2022 / Monument mapping / 9 min 10
Showing: La Rochelle Train Station, France – From 18th to 22th of November 2022 (Centenary of the Train Station)
The mapping Entre Fer et Mer (Between Iron and Sea) was projected on the Train Station of La Rochelle in November 2022 for the anniversary of its centenary. The first part of the projection is inspired by travel, whether by rail, sea or air. The multiple ornaments scattered on both sides of the walls by the architects serve as inspiration for the projection. A discreet and unique feature of this station that will change scale to come to the forefront. Shells, crabs, fish, octopus, murals, etc. metamorphose the building in a monumental choreography. The wind, the waves and the currents will complete the paintings offering a resolutely marine dimension to the projections.

Jérémy Oury / France / 2022 / Immersive mapping / 4 min
Showing: Kunstkraftwerk, Leipzig, Germany – 21st of October 2022 (Bright Festival Connect)
Exo-Cortex 2.0 is an invitation to free oneself, guided by a voice that plunges us into a dreamlike and hypnotic introspection. This immersive work was adapted for the Bright Festival Connect in the Kunstkraftwerk building in Leipzig. It offers a dreamlike journey to the spectators through a poetic and bewitching composition of the space. Each step transforms the place into complex digital formations that become new 360° moving objects of contemplation.
RE:ZITATION
xenorama / Germany / 2022 / Monument mapping / 10 min
Showing: Neu-Augustusburg Castle, Weißenfels, Germany – 27th of November 2022 (Schütz Novalis 2022)
RE:ZITATION is a light and sound installation as part of the celebratory year in honor of the composer Heinrich Schütz as well as the poet and philosopher Novalis. Neu-Augustusburg Castle in Weißenfels was illuminated by a projection mapping as the final and climax of the celebrations. The castle’s facade served as a canvas for an artistic interpretation of the ideas, style and core topics of these two great personalities. In addition to an analysis and a contemporary interpretation of excerpts of their work, modern algorithms based on artificial intelligence are also applied. These generate sonic and visual output based on compositions by Schütz and Novalis’ poetry. The extensive examination of the artistic heritage and work of Schütz and Novalis thus takes on another modern level of meaning in harmony with philosophical ideas of the past and present.
Climate
Onionlab / Spain / 2022 / Monument mapping / 8 min 21
Showing: Saint-Étienne Cathedral, Metz, France – From 23rd of June to 3rd of September 2022 (Metz Constellations Festival)
Climate is a digital dialogue between two parallel futures: a world free of global warming or the devastation of our planet.
Onionlab has developed a narrative that revolves around this paradigm shift with two parallel futures: a Utopia, where light and bright colors are the main elements, and a Dystopia, where adverse climatic elements such as sand and pollution predominate.
Winter Brilliance
Maxin10sity / Hungary / 2022 / Object video mapping / 2 min 27
Showing: Chihuly Garden and Glass, Seattle, United States – From 15th of November 2022 to 28th of February 2023
Maxin10sity’s new projection mapping installation at the Chihuly Garden and Glass offers guests a brand-new original light and music concept. Using innovative video projection technology, this immersive installation was created to project onto the stunning Winter Brilliance exhibit, inspired by fire, ice, and the dramatic use of light. This sight serves to demonstrate the artist Dale Chihuly’s ongoing desire to innovate and exhibit his glass art in new and different ways.
Dimensional Analogy
Filip Roca / Spain, Montenegro / 2022 / Monument mapping / 6 min 30
Showing: Adelaide Festival Center, Adelaide, Australia – From 15th to 31st of July 2022 (Illuminate Adelaide)
Dimensional analogy is a site-specific projection mapping piece inspired by the mathematical concept of a four-dimensional space. Unlike the familiar three-dimensional world, whose functionality depends on the recognition of x, y, and z coordinates, the intelligibility of such a conception requires a fourth parameter – an additional spatial dimension. With the disinterested playfulness inherent in mathematics, the concept challenges the three-dimensional bias of the mind. Owing to the unorthodox nature of their form, the Festival Center shells represent an ideal basis for speculative and bold visual research; by transforming into entirely new spaces filled with polytopic shapes that use architectural geometry, their unique surfaces become a canvas on which an additional dimension appears.
Radiant Route
Studio Phormatik / Bulgaria / 2022 / 360° video mapping / 5 min
Showing: Deck bus, Shenzhen, China – February 2022 (Glow Shenzhen Festival)
Radiant route is a public art projection mapping installation with Shenzhen’s double deck bus as the canvas. The name of the work represents the main elements of the installation – light and motion. As an integral part of urban daily life, the bus transformed in order to create a feeling of the ever-evolving dynamic of the city.
The 360-degree digital sculpture creates an immersive experience by using light, shadow, a flow of color and speed. Visual elements are included in the realistic framework of the bus, gradually moving through different stages between artificial and organic nature, geometry, digital and reality, leading people into a borderless world of reality and illusion, reality and virtual. The work aims to arouse people’s imagination beyond reality and replace it with a hyperspace intertwined with illusion and reality.
Within Without
Limbic Cinema / United Kingdom / 2022 / Live mapping / 22 min
Showing: Trinity Church, Stockton, United Kingdom – 5th and 6th of August 2022 (Stockton International Riverside Festival)
Within Without is a site-specific and immersive multimedia performance transforming Trinity Church into a cathedral of light, texture and movement.
Churches are among many sacred buildings that provide people from all walks of life a place to escape, to find peace, and to be transported by the interaction of architecture and light. From candles, to glass domes, and stained glass windows, light plays an essential role in the sensual and transformative quality of these spaces.
Limbic Cinema explored this idea further through the use of projection mapping and immersive video design. Audiences were wrapped in a 360° canvas of seamless animations that augmented the church, and integrated with the dancers movements. Vibrant animations enveloped viewers, synchronizing with aerial dance performances and mesmersing audiences.
Within Without was inspired by local people’s responses to the theme of Sanctuary through workshops delivered by Holly Khan and Limbic Cinema.
Grand Mix au Musée des Beaux-Arts
Inook / France / 2022 / Monument mapping / 8 min 30
Showing: Terreaux Square, Lyon, France – From 8th to 10th of December 2022 (Lyon Festival of Lights 2022)
The artworks of the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon put on a show!
The portraits get out of the museum, come to life and perform popular songs. The audience dances and sings with characters from another time, on fragments of songs known by everyone, creating a resolutely festive bridge between Fine Arts and popular culture.
IMMERSIVE up/down
ARCAAN Collective / France / 2022 / Object video mapping / 6 min 38
Showing: Jean Jaurès Square, Saint-Étienne, France – From 8th to 12th of November 2022 (Pleiades Festival)
IMMERSIVE up/down uses shapes, stroboscopic sequences and abstract patterns to create a new sense of space and time inside the Kiosk with an upside-down mirror. The installation propels us into the heart of an abstract spatio-temporal space where a sequence of geometric forms is continuously reconfigured, in symbiosis with the sound score.
Structures
Dies_ / Italie / 2022 / Mapping monumental / 4 min 05
Showing: MOCAPE Museum, Shenzhen, China – February 2022 (Glow Shenzhen Festival)
The main idea was to project onto the facade of the MOCAPE Museum a series of abstract landscapes with urban and natural environments linked by morphing passages that would make their similarity visible from a structural point of view. The peculiarity of this video mapping is the discovery of how a project conceived for a human perspective can also work from a drone view from the sky.
vivid canvas
Julian Hölscher / Germany / 2022 / Object video mapping / 8 min
Showing: Modern Art Museum, Weserburg, Germany – 30th of November 2022 (Closeup Bremen)
For the painting Das Eismeer, Julian Hölscher and Thomas Werner are particularly interested in the sensitive conveyance of the content and atmosphere that correspond to the work.
Caspar David Friedrich’s paintings invite the viewer to introspective contemplation. The audiovisual artist and the musician take up his creation and make it accessible to a present-day audience.
